Abstract In chronic heart failure, minute ventilation (VE) for a given carbon dioxide production (VCO2) might be abnormally high during exercise due to increased dead space ventilation, lung stiffness, chemo- and metaboreflex sensitivity, early metabolic acidosis and abnormal pulmonary haemodynamics.
