New work from two international teams of researchers has shown that infection with measles cripples the immune system, deleting preexisting immunity to other infections and reducing the immune system back to an immature baby-like state, incapable of mounting proper responses to pathogens.

The two research papers published simultaneously today in the journals Science Immunology and Science looked at why children are often more susceptible to other infectious diseases after having measles.
