A study shows for the first time that alterations in the structure of the brain do not begin to revert immediately after leaving alcohol.

The damage caused  by alcohol consumption  in the  brain  does not stop immediately after quitting. This is demonstrated by a joint work of the Institute of Neuroscience CSIC-UMH, in Alicante, and the Central Institute of Mental Health, University of Heidelberg, in Germany, which has detected, by means of magnetic resonance, how, at least during the first six weeks of  abstinence ,  damage to white matter continues to progress , which is like  the brain’s “highways” .
